The crease is gone: David Brooks admits ‘Obama more liberal than I thought he was’

January 6, 2012 By Kathy Shaidle

More importantly:

“And he’s more liberal than he thinks he is. He thinks he is just slightly center-left. But when you got down to his instincts, they’re pretty left. And his problem is he can’t really act on them because it would be political disaster. And so that means, I think he is doing very little — proposing very little.”

This is true of every “moderate” and “centrist” we’ve ever met, isn’t it?

If you challenge them on this self-identification, they get very angry — because the way we think about and identify ourselves is the core of our being.

And when they get angry, they get stubborn, and double down on the angry and the crazy.

And since these are the People In Charge — they tend to be bureaucrats, teachers, journalists, “creative types,” social workers, your white collar boss and others with unarmed but still insidious power over your life — this helps explain why your life is sh*tty and the world around you sucks.

You’re welcome!
