If you watch 1933’s The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (which I finally did, and you should too), you’ll notice that the evil doctor’s plans for “an empire of crime,” based on some of Hitler’s writings (according to Fritz Lang, anyhow…) sound a lot like stuff you’d read in any jihadist manifesto:
