Talk Radio Watch: March 12-16

Rush Limbaugh continues to be a hot topic of conversation:

While no fan of Limbaugh, Michael Wolff of the U.K.’s far left newspaper The Guardian explained that calls for a boycott of Rush’s show revealed that the host’s opponents had no real understanding of Limbaugh’s business model.

The reporter does, however, because as he explains: “As it happened, in 1987, one of the guys my dad worked with, Lee Vanden-Handel, a man without any rabid interest in politics but with a keen sense of the no-brand advertising market, discovered Rush Limbaugh at a station in Sacramento…”

PLUS — from industry bible Talkers magazine complains about the persistent media “misinformation” about how radio advertising works, even though…

TALKERS has pointed out to countless consumer media that have contacted our offices regarding this issue that “no controversial programming” dictates are common and practically as old as talk radio itself and not a unique reaction to the Limbaugh case – although certainly reiterated as a result of it.

TALKERS has also pointed out that monitoring a station’s internet feed does not reflect the same commercial content as the air feed since union regulations affect the degree to which union talent-voiced spots can air on the web.

Robin Morgan married a flaming homosexual. She is ‘disgusted’ by her ‘white skin’ and her ‘passport’.

Now she’s fighting to get Rush Limbaugh off the air.

She has a lot of nerve presenting herself in public as a representative of American womanhood, no?

‘Uninhibited, robust and wide open’: Rush Limbaugh’s apology ‘worse than Obama’s to the Taliban’

That’s how a friend put it, and of course, Limbaugh’s statement has all the concern trolls sighing their self-satisfied sighs.

Ed Driscoll keeps his cool, and issues the clearest talking points, although no doubt hysterics will read “she asked for it” into these and other mature, measured, commonsensical analyses.

Do cut and paste:

I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke.  However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand.

It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not.  Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.

That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives.  If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them.  Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.

***
Now fluke is considering suing Limbaugh, but as the broadcasting industry reminds everyone this morning, Fluke made herself a “public figure” and pace NYT v Sullivan (and  Hustler Magazine, Inc. vs. Falwell): tough noogies.

Talk Radio Watch: weekly recap for Feb 27-Mar 2

Andrew Breitbart’s sudden passing shocked conservative talk radio hosts, many of who knew the media mogul personally and were starting their morning shows as news of his death came across the wires.

Get audio highlights from Rush, Beck, Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, about this story and more, at the NEW Talk Radio Watch column!

BONUS radio stuff:

* Dennis Miller: “I don’t dig the way the country is going” and “I don’t know if ‘getting along’ is the point”

* Why Rush Limbaugh makes $45 -million/year: If we’re gonna have to pay for your birth control, you should be forced to set up cameras in your bedroom so we can at least watch, and get our money back”

* Black activists still pouting, “demanding action” over local radio hosts who mused that the people around Whitney Houston in her final days probably called her a “crack ho” — rather than concentrating their energies in lowering the black drop out or incarceration rate

* Bomb squad called to Limbaugh’s house Thursday night (TV news report)

* Industry veteran Randall Bloomquist:

When I asked if he had any desire to host his own radio show, Breitbart shook his head, smiled and said that he had no interest in “being the 101st guy talking about the deficit ceiling.”  If he was going to do radio, Breitbart added, “I would rather deejay a 1980s retro British rock show.”

Talk Radio Watch: weekly recap for Feb 13-17

All NEW Talk Radio Watch column is now up!

Enjoy FREE audio highlights from the week in conservative talk radio.

BONUS radio stuff:

Via email:

Hi.  I enjoy your WND Talk Radio Watch installments.  I have what I hope you will consider a good topic for a future post.

I have produced a documentary called, Liberty or Lies?, which analyzes what may well prove the impetus behind Wisconsin’s historic Conservative revolution of 2010: Milwaukee Conservative talk radio

Home to power houses like Rush Limbaugh fill-in Mark Belling, nationally recognized author Charlie Sykes and others, and frequented by local politicians like Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson, Reince Priebus and Jim Sensenbrenner, Milwaukee boasts one of the most vibrant and effective Conservative talk radio scenes in the country.

Liberty or Lies? aired on Milwaukee Public Television (Yes… PUBLIC  television!) on January 30 and again on February 4.  After the premiere, the national public television audience research firm TRAC Media  in their Friday Fax for 2/3/12 wrote, “And here’s a kicker: “Conservative Talk Radio: Liberty or Lies?” got a 1.6 ending prime in Milwaukee. Wow!”  Currently, Liberty or Lies? with 2,027 views within just two weeks of airing, is the most viewed program on the MPTV video archive pages.

Anyway – you can read much more about it and reaction to it—as well as watch parts 1-4 of the 6 part series I’m working on, at www.libertyorlies.com.

Instant classic radio: Glenn Beck decontructs Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’ (audio)

Sure, every decade or so, it falls upon someone to do this, for the benefit of the young and ignorant.

But this is Glenn Beck!

PS: no need for Altamont to be forgotten when you can get my favorite t-shirt…

PPS: I always thought this part was about Kent State:

We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
‘Cause the players tried to take the field,
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed,
The day the music died?
