A friend of mine now requests non-Muslim cab drivers when she calls for a taxi, and the dispatcher inevitably laughs knowingly. Maybe we should all do the same.
Yes, I do support a Christian printer’s right to turn down a job from gay activists. That’s different because:
a) Christianity is true and Islam is false. Duh.
b) Even though the concept isn’t recognized in the Canadian Charter, a printing press is the printer’s private property, but cabbies normally lease their hacks from the company. So the decision about who they carry isn’t their’s to make unless the passenger is a threat to their security.
c) Any religion that thinks dogs are unclean is dumb (see “a”). In your personal experience, who is cleaner: the average dog or the average cab driver?
d) I’ve known a number of “gays” who were “gay until graduation” or happy to sleep with a member of the opposite sex when presented with that option of a drunken evening. These “gays” are now presenting themselves as straight, married with kids, their battered Tales of the City paperbacks long ago shipped off to the used book store.
I have never, however, met a person who was situationally or recreationally blind.
