UPDATE: this email just came in from a reader in the London, Ontario area:
I saw your tweet yesterday about talking to the London Free Press, and I hoped you hadn’t spoken to Randy Richmond.
But alas, I saw the morning paper and realized it was true.
If you look up this guy’s articles over the past several years, he has been a cheerleader and buddy of [The Guy Who Is Suing Ezra, me and other bloggers for criticizing the methods of the Human Rights Commissions] for years, consistently smearing free speech advocates and human rights industry victims.
I’m getting cc’d on emails to Bernie Farber and/or the London Free Press. This one is representative:
You have been quoted as attacking Kathy Shaidle of the Five Feet of Fury web site. Please be advised that as an active, involved member of the Canadian Jewish community, I look to “5 Feet…” for support and information regarding real issues that threaten our community. Bloggers such as Shaidle and Levant in Canada, Johnson (LGF) and Malkin in the USA accomplish more in rallying support for Jewish issues than big-budget mainstream, unelected organizations.
Yikes! This one must’ve left a mark:
I just wanted to address you – the head of the self-proclaimed “voice of the Jewish community” – to let you know that you do not speak for me or, frankly, for any other Jew that I know and that I and many others are growing increasingly sick of your antics. I have long stopped contributing anything to your group and instead proudly direct my time and money to organizations that are actually in line with Jewish values and would rather use their resources to promote Judaism than outmoded leftist politics.
I really wish you would spend a fraction of the energy that you spend attacking allies of ours (like Kathy, Ezra, Mark and others) in going after Muslim extremists (like CAF or imam Sohawardy who you allow to use you as a prop in a sad little “dialogue committee” Judenrat) or actually fighting for Jewish values.
Kathy actually showed up to counter-protest the anti-Israel rallies in Toronto that you couldn’t be bothered to attend.
Please refrain from calling your organization the “voice of the Jewish community in Canada.” You’re nothing but another leftist organization that happens to be comprised of Jews and not even Torah-believing Jews at that and you are increasingly alienating everyone for whom Judaism is a faith and not a political cover or paycheque.
(My original post follows):
So you won’t be going to the Don Rickle’s concert then, eh “Burnie”?
Bernie Farber’s sputtering outrage is pretty funny, since Bernie Farber’s Canadian Jewish Congress actually helped build up the so-called Canadian Nazi Party, presumably so they’d have an imaginary enemy to do battle with.
And he’s a great supporter of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, whose employees and operatives (including a police officer) post racist remarks on white supremacist websites as a form of entrapment.
Unlike those guys, I actually sign my real name to everything I write — and I’m not getting taxpayer money to do it!
But Bernie Farber is an Establishment bigshot, so he gets quoted far more accurately in the London Free Press than I did today.
There’s no almost risk when it comes to all the stuff Bernie does. He’ll get the Order of Canada one day.
I take very real risks, because I go after today’s enemies, not yesterday’s.
Like when I insult the belligerent Muslim “sockpuppets” who tried to hijack Maclean’s magazine — they’re the “puny little whiners” I complained about, by the way.
And those who “practise a sick religion”? If you say your religion tells you to fly airplanes into buildings full of thousands of people, and not to publicly condemn people who do, yeah, that’s pretty undeniably sick.
I insult every race and religion at this blog. I have done for nine years now. I let a guest writer take a stab at the Irish last month. I’ve called the Amish “useless.” I’ve called on the Luftwaffe to resume bombing England because the place has become a disgraceful dump. And then there’s my regular feature: “The Japanese: nuked too often or not enough?”
(They don’t mention all that in their complaints, though; you see, only Certain Very Special Groups of Pet-People can never be mocked, criticized or insulted, according to the Establishment…)
Why? Well, cuz I find it entertaining, and so do my thousands of daily readers. But more importantly:
Because political correctness is a bigger threat to the public safety and the future of the West than any mean names and trenchant observations I could ever post at my blog.
I guess all those ideas and explanations flew over the head of the reporter at the London Free Press, Randy Richmond, who I had chuckling quite a bit in our rather lengthy conversation yesterday. I mentioned PJ O’Rourke, Mark Twain…
Did I mention that only two sentences of mine appear in his article? You know: space considerations. Another reason newspapers are on the decline…
I also warned him about “ransom note racism” — against taking his talking points from left-wing (mostly unread) bloggers (with about 1/100th my readership and influence) who indulge in personal name-calling, threats of violence, occasional anti-semitism and, come to think of it, misogyny.
Especially left-wing bloggers who take random sentences I’ve written, cut them up, add elipses and add words [like “spread SARS” for example].
Especially leftwing bloggers who have, not once but twice been denounced in the House of Commons recently for, what was it? — oh yeah, “insulting the entire Chinese Community.”
Especially left-wing bloggers who are uniformly white, but being liberals, insist upon spending their free time and mental energy getting “offended” on behalf of other people (who rarely notice my “offensiveness” and “bigotry”.) Faux outrage and moral exhibitionism: they’re as much a part of the urban lefty’s wardrobe as a backpack and a water bottle.
I’m old enough to remember when June Callwood was a “racist” and Mordechai Richler was an “anti-semite”.
David Frum just called Rush Limbaugh a “racist” even though Rush has an African-American producer and has Thomas Sowell as one of his few regular guests and Walter Williams as his frequent guest host. Funnily enough, David Frum’s NewMajority.com doesn’t have any African-Americans working there that I’m aware of…
I’m kinda flattered actually. One of the people involved in this awfully weird and time consuming smear campaign has done exactly the same “ransom note racism” thing to the great Mark Steyn, who recalls:
red in columns of mine – they’re out there on the websites of The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator, The Jerusalem Post, The Chicago Sun-Times, Maclean’s, The Australian, The National Post, etc – and, in fact, when Catsmeat got especially hysterical last spring, we reprinted them all at SteynOnline. No attempt to hoover the record here. I stand by those words and the context in which they appear.
Catsmeat should have done the same. (…)
Ah, well. Unlike them, I ‘m just a lowly little blogger — who seems to cause a whole lotta fuss.
Using hysterical charges of “racism” — and remember, everyone, “racist” is the new “commie” — is a clever risk free way to shut down an event that, as the deck announces, features “speakers critical of hate speech laws.”
Like, that’s a big deal or something.
Well, if you’re Bernie Farber, it is, because that’s how you got to be Bernie Farber.
You support calling other people “racists” if they write something that doesn’t fit your Establishment liberal politically correct views about how “real” Canadians are supposed to write and talk and think.
He’d say I “cross the line.”
I respond that I don’t recognize the existence of any “line,” especially the arbitray lines draw by liberal Establishment Canadian elites over the past 40 years.
Bernie Farber even implicitly supports employees of the State posing as Nazis to entrap other “Nazis” on my dime — while belligerent Muslims — I call ’em “brown supremacists” — across Canada were plotting to behead the Prime Minister, and while I was one of a dozen people defying thousands of similar Muslims on the streets of downtown Toronto in January, Muslims who waved the flags of banned terrorist groups and made death threats against the child beside me in the presence of police officers who stood by and did nothing.
Bernie and his friends must’ve been too busy that day to come to that rally and protest flesh and blood fascism in Toronto’s streets.
I guess they were too busy reading my blog!
Bernie didn’t mention that I make fun of him a lot on this blog for “bravely” going after “the Nazis” on the internet — even though there are more Nazis in the average Hogan’s Heroes re-run than in all of Canada.
And made fun of him before for not facing down the new, real life (but inconveniently non-white…) threat to Canadian Jewry today, while I, a mere shiksa, manage to find the time.
And he and his friends are liberals and I’m a conservative. (Note that small “c”).
But of course, that has nothing to do with any of this, so that didn’t make it into the article either.
Anyway, if I’m such a purveyor of hate, then have me charged by the police or file a Section 13 complaint against me with the Human Rights Commissions you all love so dearly.
If you don’t, I’m reluctantly forced to conclude that you’re wimps and hypocrites.
If you do, it’ll be the best thing for my donations and book sales ever!
