OTTAWA – The New Democrats have secured Obama senior campaign insider Betsy Myers to replace that campaign’s Communications Director Anita Dunn, as a keynote speaker at their Convention in Halifax.
The move comes after Dunn, currently serving as White House Director of Communications, had her contract extended by President Obama, making her ineligible to attend party conventions.
“While we are disappointed we won’t be seeing Anita in Halifax, we congratulate her on her extended appointment at the White House,” said Brad Lavigne, National Director of the New Democrats. “We are very excited to welcome Betsy to Halifax to provide the insider’s perspective into the historic campaign.”
Myers served as the Obama campaign’s Chief Operations Officer and was the National Women’s Chair for Obama for America. Prior to this appointment, Myers was the Executive Director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
As Deputy Assistant to President Clinton, Myers launched and was the first Director of the White House Office for Women’s Initiatives and Outreach.
Myers’ keynote NDP Convention address will take place on the evening of Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
