UPDATE: great photo! (Hmmmm… should we start calling him “Ol’ Ginger Hair”?)
Last night’s “speech” by Mark Steyn in London, Ontario was so much more than that.
He’d promised fans he’d make it worth their while to come to the Canadian college town, and he didn’t disappoint.
I knew something was up when I saw a piano onstage…
Yes, Mark Steyn sang “Marshmallow World” — a lot! — as well as his original tune, “My Sharia Amore.”
Costumes were worn, t-shirts thrown into the crowd, books were signed. Other people will have better posts about it because I was up until almost 2 AM, it is now about 6:30 and I’m not really awake. Plus there was almost too much to write about.
A bunch of us bloggers got VIP seating, and ClosetConservative live-blogged it (“SINGING ACK!!!”). That’s where you’ll get the play by play.
In case you were wondering: there were no protests or disruptions, inside or out. The organizers tell me there were about 150 students in the 1100 person crowd. I can’t help but assume that a few of those students actually learned something last night.
I got invited backstage to say hi. We filmed a special video commercial with Steyn graciously calling on everyone to read my husband’s website and support him. Alas, some of it had to be censored after consulting with our lawyer…
Lots of people came up and said hi to both of us, and some gave us donations for Arnie’s legal defence fund. I always love visiting London, where some of my biggest fans live. Thanks for coming over to say hello!
(If you couldn’t be there, at least grab a souvenir t-shirt — they were hot sellers last night.)
Don’t forget: Mark Steyn will be on the Michael Coren Show tonight for the full hour at 6PM ET.
UPDATE: Steyn reports:
I arrived at the King Edward in Toronto around 2am last night to find I’d been upgraded to the Royal Suite, where Elton John and Barbara Bush recently stayed (not simultaneously, I hasten to add).
So we filmed the interview there, in case you think that’s my pad in the background.
(Wow, I kinda hope he’s checked out and long gone, having posted his exact location in a city jammed with rapid admirers…)
