Dolores Fuller, who served as muse, girlfriend, and lead actress for camp auteur Ed Wood Jr., died from complications of a stroke on Monday. She was 88. She was best known for her starring role alongside Wood in Glen or Glenda, Wood’s 1953 film about cross-dressing, and was portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker in the 1994 film Ed Wood.
After her relationship with Wood ended in the mid-fifties, Fuller went on to work as a songwriter, penning the Elvis Presley song “Rock-a-Hula Baby.”
In a recent interview, Fuller reflected on what got her the gig with Wood: “I guess he interviewed a lot of young actresses, but I came in with an angora sweater, and he loved angora.”
