The film does not bother to attempt explaining why, despite the Chinese Exclusion Act and Japanese internment, Asian Americans outperform white Americans both on standardized tests and in terms of per-capita income, but let’s not get carried away and allow facts to undermine what is otherwise a carefully crafted propaganda piece designed to provide alibis for seemingly intractable black underperformance in these areas. It’s definitely a different world than the one I inhabited when I went to school. In my Catholic grade school, a female “lay” teacher—they’re called that because they’re allowed to get laid—once speculated that blacks look more like apes than whites do because they are less evolved than whites. In high school a nun—they’re called that because they don’t get none—told us that black poverty was due to the fact that blacks are impulsive and don’t comprehend the principle of delayed gratification.
I feel obligated to add that Jim Goad and I went to two different Catholic schools, and no nun (or lay teacher) so much as hinted at such things. Just sayin’…
